This piece was created as an assignment for DPA 4020: Visual Foundations of Digital Production at Clemson University. Having developed much of my earlier illustration work in traditional media, my goal in this course was to refine my digital painting skills while exploring the toolset of Clip Studio Paint EX.
Focusing on a black-and-white workflow, I emphasized value structure and tonal balance to develop form and depth. Beginning with loose linework, I built the image through layered shading passes by blocking in darks, midtones, and highlights before refining contrast to achieve the final composition.
This digital illustration was created using my personal photographic reference as a guide.
